Patanjali Yogpeeth: Political Unity In Yoga

Patanjali Yogpeeth’s inauguration at Haridwar showed that in politics also “Tiger & She goat” can drink in one ghat. Gathering of Lalu-Nitish, Shila Dixit-Narendra Modi and N.D.Tiwari-Munda told the truth.

Yoga is also translated as union. Political yoga, if we extrapolate this concept, would link political factions together and enable them to work towards shared societal goals.

On Nov. 14, 2005 · Humorist Brian Unger had proposed an unconventional solution to the ongoing political strife in Washington, D.C.: Get Democratic and Republican leaders together for a long weekend... of yoga.

Keshav Vidhyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya
The Rshatriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) got the green signal on March 20, 2006 from Rajasthan government to open an university - Keshav Vidhyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya in in the country at Jamdoli, on the outskirts of Jaipur. Yoga sadhana, ayurveda and medical sciences and courses in culture will be offered alongside the core subjects of post graduation.

Rajasthan, Bihar & Jharkhand followed Baba Ramdev
Swami Ramdev has united Congress, BJP through yoga in Rajasthan.
As reported on March 21, 2006 (Patna):Fitness fever seems to have gripped Bihar MLAs."I have heard that politicians have a very big ego and have a stiff body. I strongly recommend yoga for them," said Baba Ramdev.

Lawless Orissa Assembly
Fifty of Orissa's 147 lawmakers, including some ministers, currently have criminal cases pending against them. Congress legislator Anup Sai, who had thrown his footwear and started the ruckus, asked: "I am the MLA who threw the chappal in the assembly. There are many villages in my constituency bedeviled by violence. What is the way out?" Shri Shri Ravi Shankar answered "Anger is a good tool, but get angry at issues, not persons. Getting emotional is normal. But whether you're in the assembly or elsewhere, one must learn how to keep emotions within control,"

Assam politics stops for yoga
In an election rally Sonia Gandhi (legal foreigner) gave hints about illegal foreigners. I recall a news posted on Dec.21, 2005: ‘Assam politics stops for yoga’- Guwahati: Politics has taken a back seat in poll-bound Assam for the past seven days. Instead of scurrying for tickets for next year's assembly polls politicians of all hues are making a beeline for Yoga guru Ramdeva.

A Journey from Politics to Yoga
‘A Journey from Politics to Yoga’ From the Early Political Writings of Sri Aurobindo
— Compiled from the Writings of Sri Aurobindo reveals "how even politics can and has to be reoriented and imbued with spirituality". “Though written several decades ago ... they present thoughts which are still very relevant and provide guidelines to present-day politicians and statesmen." The editor hopes "this compilation will help in reforming our political system on the lines of Sri Aurobindo's thought and vision".

We can describe Gandhi’s promotion of nature cure as his way of getting India’s people in shape for self-rule.

Aurobindo became more involved in politics and yoga. Five years after his marriage to Mrinalini Bose, he wrote to her saying that he was suffering from madness. He categorized his madness at three levels. First, was that he realized his talents and resources had to be used for one purpose only i.e. for God’s work. His second madness he describes as his quest to have a direct ‘Realization with God’. Thirdly, to him India was the Mother, the divine embodiment of sakti that propelled him towards politics.

East meets West in Yoga
Many forms of yoga are now commonly practiced across the United States. But the most widely taught is Iyengar yoga, named after the Indian guru B.K.S. Iyengar. He teaches that yoga has a deeply spiritual component, uniting body, mind and soul. Iyengar is credited with introducing yoga to the West.

Nivedita Joshi, daughter of Murli Manohar Joshi, was incapacitated for almost a decade because of slip disc. After a miraculous recovery under the living legend of yoga, B.K.S. Iyengar’s care, she has resumed her normal life.”

Quoting Maharshi Patanjali (500 BC), Mr. Kalam urged the members in Bihar to ask themselves: "What will I be remembered for?" His answer was they should make themselves partners in making the State economically prosperous, happy and safe.

What everyone says ‘yoga is yoga’?
Yoga is not just twisting your hands and legs. An unlikely candidate for yoga, sex siren, Mallika Sherawat paid Baba Ramdev a visit. It is good that she meet a realized Guru.
Social Scientist Alter, himself and his father born in India says,”
“But from an academic perspective, it cannot be understood on its own terms; it must be placed in historical and cultural context.” He and a growing number of researchers are interested in how ideas about the body in Asian cultures have been tied to political culture. “For example, in the 1920s in India, the push to change yoga was an expression of nationalist self-affirmation through medical knowledge. In India, yoga had already lost its more spiritual bent years before it was transported to the West. In the U.S. [yoga] is considered alternative medicine, a self-help practice that you learn about in a class and then do on your own outside of health care.” says Alter.

Hinduism is in the hearts of the rural people of India
Rural population constitutes 80 per cent of this country. Hindu gurus are all vulnerable in today's India: The Kanchi Shankaracharya has already been hit.
Baba Ram dev and Shri Shri Ravishankar are in the hit list of terrorists. Binda Karat of CPM attacked on Baba Ram dev. So has Satya Sai Baba. Amritanandamayi has to live under the constant shadow of a hostile Kerala Communist-dominated government. Marx called religion 'the opium of the people'. Sri Aurobindo, who was accused in the early 1900s by the moderate Congress-controlled press to be a 'fanatic', when he was only demanding total independence from the British long before Gandhi took it up.
